My fourth “Big Rob’s Van” video has been posted to YouTube. In this one, I talk a little bit more about how “perfect is the enemy of good,” and how coming to that realization has helped me overcome the worry that my van won’t be perfect. This isn’t supposed to be stressful, it’s supposed to be fun!

Also in this video you’ll get to see what kind of damage golf ball-sized hail does to a car (mine), and what a direct hit from a tornado does to a house (not mine). Last night while editing this video, another storm rolled through town. It’s one of the few times I wasn’t concerned about hail damage, mostly because they haven’t fixed my car from the last round of storms yet.

When I began supporting a view “#vanlife” people on Patreon, I discovered that their YouTube videos always lagged behind what was currently happening — sometimes days, sometimes weeks. Now that I’ve dipped my toe in the world of YouTube, I understand why. It’s simply impossible to compile, edit, and post videos that quickly. Some of the footage in my latest video was filmed three weeks ago. Some of it was filmed yesterday. Part of the challenge (and the fun) is trying to weave it all together into one semi-consistent narrative.

I’m thinking about starting a second series of BRV videos, just so I can get them out more quickly. I’m thinking about alternating between a week where I talk about a topic, followed by a week where I tackle a project. I have too much happening in my life to do a weekly project video, so that might be a way to keep videos flowing. I dunno. I may test the waters with one, monitor the views, and make a more formal decision after that.
