Prior to receiving the new HD02 Mini, flashlight from Wurkkos, I owned two other small flashlights. One worked okay, but required a USB-micro cable for charging. The other had a USB-C port, but the flashlight itself kind of sucked. Ten minutes after playing around with the HD02 Mini,, I tossed the other two into the Goodwill bin.

Wurkkos knows flashlights. The HD02 Mini, is the newest and smallest member of the HD02 line, but don’t let its small size fool you. This thing is powerful, handy, and convenient.

The HD02 Mini, is an “EDC” (every day carry) flashlight — small enough to keep in your pocket but bright enough to be useful. It has a max brightness of 1,300 lumens and can light up things up to 204 meters away (that’s about 1/8 mile). The bottom of the flashlight has multiple functions. On the very bottom is a threaded hole that allows tripod mounting. The base is also a strong magnet. Finally, the bottom unscrews to reveal the 900 mAh 14500 battery. In a pinch, a AA battery can be used as well.

All of the Mini’s features are conveniently located on the same side. The large black on/off switch slides up and down. In off-mode, the USB-C charging port is revealed. At the top you can see the rotating dial. The three modes are spotlight, flood light, and red light. The dial is also the on/off button; when held down, brightness can be controlled.

The flashlight has one additional hidden feature. Tucked flush into the side is a “wing light” that can be flipped out. Here I’ve attached the flashlight to the side of my van and I can see using the flood light to light a small area. The wing light is not as bright as the spotlight, but is certainly useful.

It’s impossible to truly convey how bright or dim a flashlight is through pictures, but this is a picture of the side of my workshop at 6pm. The flashlight lights up the side of the workshop, even in sunlight.

An every day flashlight needs to be small, convenient (the HD02 Mini has a belt clip on the back to keep it in place), intuitive to use and easy to charge. The HD02 Mini checks every one of those boxes for me. If you’re looking for something larger to light an entire campsite (or worksite), Wurkkos has larger models that meet those needs. For something that’ll fit in your pocket and be there when you need it, you can’t beat the HD02 Mini.
