Prior to discovering AsperX and their power banks, not only did I not have a favorite brand of power bank, but I couldn’t have named one. I have half a dozen battery packs and each of them have things I like and dislike about them. Some are limited to two charging ports, some don’t offer fast charging ports, and some are underpowered. A few months ago I accidentally dropped my previously favorite power bank, cracking the plastic case wide open and ruining it.
The 20,000mAh Laptop Power Bank by AsperX is the second second power bank I’ve tested from the company. The previous one, a mammoth 60,000wAh battery, has become my go to battery for charging basically everything. The only thing keeping it from being the perfect power bank for all applications is the fact that it weighs about four pounds — perfect for keeping in the car or taking on a camping trip, but a little too heavy to keep in your laptop bag and definitely too large to fit in a pocket while hiking or walking.

AsperX’s 20,000mAh Laptop Power Bank addresses that by packaging a sleek and powerful battery in a smaller case. It fits easily into a front pocket or laptop bag without adding any bulk.
While I own power banks with larger batteries, none of them deliver more watts than this one does. The AsperX Laptop Power Bank delivers up to 165 watts, dividing that delivery between three charging ports. The top of the device has a 100w USB-C port and a 30w USB-A port, while the bottom has a retractable USB-C charging cable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to dig to find a charging cable to use and it’s so nice to have at least one built in. Includedin the box is a braided USB-C to USB-C charging cable and a cloth bag to protect the charger. It’s a nice, classy touch.

The unit’s ability to deliver high wattage allows it to be used to charge not just smaller devices like phones and earbuds, but large items like laptops and tablets. For smaller items that don’t require much power, there’s a low-power mode that drops the charging output so as not to overcharge or overhead smaller items.
When I reviewed AsperX’s 60,000mAh power bank I said its screen was the best of any item I own (still true), and I’d say the one on this 20,000mAh battery is the second best. It’s physically smaller (by design) but still bright enough to be read in direct sunlight. The four screens can be cycled through and controlled by the device’s single button. The first screen shows the battery’s current charge and how much time remains before it is depleted. The next screen shows the last time the unit was charged, how many times it’s been charged, and other statistics. The final two screens control the screen’s brightness and the amount of time the display stays active. For normal operation there’s not much of a need to drill down past the first screen. A long press of the button toggles between normal and low-power mode.

Over the years, I’ve done all kinds of testing on dozens of USB power banks. I’ve tested them to see if the batteries are as large as advertised (often not). I’ve tested dropping them from different heights. I’ve even how long they take to drain and how long they take to charge. The AsperX 20,000 Laptop Power Bank passed the most important test of all — it’s the one I now take with me everywhere I go.
