So, I got an e-trike — specifically, a Gyroor C5 E-Trike.
You probably have questions about e-trikes. I know I did. What’s teh difference between an e-trike and an e-bike? Are they sturdy? Is it just a mobility scooter? What practical uses does it have?
I had all of those same questions and more when Gyroor contacted me and asked if I would be interested in testing and reviewing their new C5 E-Trike. At first I was a little confused about what market this thing was for, but I decided to give it a try and after a month of testing I will tell you I (we, actually) are in love with this thing.

Let’s get the specs out of the way. The Gyroor C5 comes with a 1000w (max) battery/motor that provides a whopping 30 miles of range and a top speed of 12 miles per hour (20km/h). The 12″ wheels, triple-spring suspension, and low center of gravity make it extremely stable and difficult to tip over. It weighs just over 80lbs and has a weight limit of 300lbs. Included are two metal storage baskets, one on the floorboard and another behind the diver’s seat, which provide ample room for groceries, camping items, or pets who like feeling the breeze. The C5 does not have any pedals, only pegs, so no pedaling is required. Just twist the throttle knob, and off you go.
For those new to e-bikes and e-trikes, the C5 is geared toward novices. The e-trike arrived in a box and was approximately 80% pre-assembled. It takes me a full day to assemble shelves from Ikea, but I was able to assemble the C5 in a little over an hour. If I were doing a second one, I could probably do it in 15-20 minutes. All the necessary tools are included. The manual includes a QR code that links to an assembly video which is all I used to assemble mine. In case you’re looking for it, here’s a link to the Gyroor C5 assembly video:
It’s obvious that you’re not going to be jumping the C5 or riding through rugged back country, and that’s not what it was designed for. For those who live in the city, the C5 would be great for a commute to work or school. (I would have loved to own one of these when I was in college!) With a 30 mile range, you can ride all over the place in between charges. The C5 is designed to handle inclines of up to 15%. We took it to our local park for a day of riding and exploring and had no problem on any of the paved trails. We used the metal baskets for carrying a one-gallon water jug, food and drinks for a picnic at the park, and the C5’s charger (just in case).

The C5 is easy to roll around, but also has locking brakes to keep it from moving while parked. The trike weighs a little over 80lbs and the front (where the battery is located) is heavier than the rear. I was able to easily lift the trike onto my van’s trailer carrier, but 80lbs is 80lbs and it’s easier to lift with two people than one. The handlebars flip down thanks to a quick-release clamp, which would make the C5 fit into the rear of most SUVs for transporting.

After riding the Gyroor C5 all over the neighborhood, we decided to take it to the park for a day of adventure. If you are shy and don’t like talking to strangers, be warned — every person who sees the trike has asked me where I got it and how it handles. Seriously. Little kids, teenagers, young adults, and even older people have asked me about the trike. The built-in stability makes this thing a good e-vehicle for older older riders worried about speed and stability issues, but the carrying capacity is a good fit for students with books and backpacks, or people downtown running errands. The mileage range of this thing blows me away. If you lived three miles from the nearest grocery store you could ride the C5 there and back five times a week before having to charge.
And speaking of the charger, the C5 comes with a 200w battery charger that’s no hassle to use. The charging port is built in to the frame and covered with a rubber flap to keep mud and water out. In my van I have a Bluetti Elite 200 V2which was able to charge the C5 with no issues. The charger drew just under 200w which is well within the range of most medium-sized power stations.

One nice thing about the Gyroor C5 is how simple it is to operate. All the controls are conveniently located at the end of your thumb. The top button turns the C5’s headlight off and on, and the bottom button turns the scooter off and on and cycles through its three gears: low (6mph), high (12mph), and reverse. Next to the controls is the throttle; just turn it and go. You can literally explain to someone how to operate the trike in about five seconds. There are hand levers to operate the brakes and a manual bell you can ding to let people know you’re coming. The average mountain bike is way more complicated to operate than the Gyroor C5.
The storage baskets provide a lot of storage (you could easily bring home four or five gallons of milk or several bags of groceries). The two things I wish the C5 came with were a phone mount and a cup holder for drinks. I later checked and discovered that both of these items are add-on options available from Gyroor.

Probably the most deceiving thing about the trike is how it looks in pictures. It looks like one of those mobility scooters that old people use at bingo parlors and casinos — and to be honest, it could probably be used for that (I’d recommend keeping it in the lower, 6mph gear for that). It’s not until you get on the thing and start riding that all the possibilities start to manifest in your brain. I live approximately two miles from the nearest convenience store and drive there often to buy drinks; suddenly, I realized I could drive the C5 e-trike there instead! (I can cut through neighborhoods to get there — I wouldn’t recommend driving this trike on public roads.)
At campsites, thsi will be even more fun. We love exploring new campgrounds to see what amenities are available and this will be a great way to do that. If you’re like me, the most quiet and peaceful campsites also happen to be the ones furthest from the bathroom. This this scooter available, that’s no longer a problem — even at night, thanks to the headlight. Now that we have both an e-bike and the Gyroor C5 e-trike, we can ride literally miles away from our campsite and bring food and water with us thanks to all the onboard storage.
I will also admit I’ve used the trike to go down the driveway and check the mail — not because I’m lazy, just because it’s fun.
Purchasing an e-bike or e-trike is a big decision. I wouldn’t purchase this if I were wanting to go exploring in the woods offroad or try and drive it up the side of a mountain. But if you’re hanging out at campsites or want to run errands downtown or just get out and enjoy the open air, I think the Gyroor C5 is a winner. If you’re considering purchasing one and have more questions, please shoot me an email and I’ll answer whatever I can.
